WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED: Her former partner turned out to be an obsessive whackjob with a penchant for murder.

Ariana "Catena" Buckland was a junior employee of the Agency, partnered to [unknown], who dealt with physical threats while she dealt with the supernatural ones. Her duties involved sending lost, tortured souls back to the afterlife; [unknown]'s were to make sure their physical manifestations (thrown objects, walking corpses, etc.) did not disrupt her. They both held romantic feelings for each other, though both seemed to miss that the other felt the same way. Typical love life problems, you understand - eventually they did tell each other they loved each other.

The day afterward, [unknown] went on a rampage for reasons, well, unknown. Most of their fellow personnel were dead by the time Ariana arrived. A confrontation ensued on the top of the building, and Ariana pushed [unknown] off after the revelation that [unknown] apparently did this out of a delusion that they were "all getting in the way".

Ariana promptly quit her job and went into hiding, going so far as to use the alias "Catena", in the belief that [unknown] had somehow survived. Considering the Agency's non-discrimination policies, it is entirely possible [unknown] was not entirely human. With that in mind, Ariana's suspicion is at the very least justified. The Agency shut down afterward, unable to cope with the tragic loss of so many valued employees (to say nothing of the mess that was made of their building).

ABILITIES: Ariana is a mage of some power, her main elemental affiliations being light and flame. She also possesses the rare but useful ability of perceiving ghosts and other specters. ... As such, she's basically able to use Turn Undead and she knows where to aim it.

It should be noted that Ariana is able to banish antagonistic ghosts via self-created spells and not a religious affiliation. She is also, despite her elemental affiliations, not much of a healer. She's better at the attack magic, and during her tenure as landlady of the Earthstone House, has also become proficient in the setting and maintenance of wards.
